ChristophDollis.com makes limited use of primarily “session cookies”. Also called a transient cookie, a session cookie is stored in temporary memory and it is erased when the user closes their web browser. Session cookies do not collect personally identifiable information from the user’s computer.
Also called a permanent cookie or a stored cookie, a persistent cookie is one that is stored on a user’s hard drive until it reaches a preset expiration date or until the user deletes the cookie. Persistent cookies may be used to collect identifying information about the user, such as web surfing behaviour or user preferences for a specific website.
Any persistent cookies used by ChristophDollis.com are for the user’s convenience: To remember settings and selections, etc. I don’t use cookies for tracking purposes; however, various add-on services used by ChristophDollis.com may and, if this concerns you, you should read the privacy policies for these other sites.

I use internet protocol (IP) addresses to analyze trends, administer the site, track users’ movement, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses are generally not linked to personally identifiable information, however, they can be linked to a specific Internet service provider or organization. For example, if a user works for the Bank of Montreal in the corporate head office and they use their work computer to visit this website, I may be able to tell that someone with a given IP address visited this website and that they used a Bank of Montreal computer to do so.
I also collect information about which type of operating systems and web browsers my users are using so I can better design my website to be accessible for a wide variety of users. This information is in no way personally identifiable.
If, as I am, you are concerned about your security and privacy while online, then I offer that you might wish to take a page from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security“The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, otherwise known as Dancing with Big Brother, tells the world to stop using the Web browser you fought long and hard to tie into your operating system. That’s what happened to beleaguered Microsoft when the department’s Computer Emergency Readiness Team (CERT) recently recommended users switch to alternate browser platforms to avoid the security holes in IE caused largely by ActiveX.” and download the excellent and free Firefox web browserThe award winning web browser I use and recommend. Aside from being more secure in most cases, it is very customizable and allows you to add extra extensions (features) so you do more than just browse and you can quickly pick a while new theme to match your taste. Trying is believing. If you don’t have it, you should download this puppy and play with it. with the free add-on NoScript extensionWinner of the “2006 PC World World Class Award,” this tool makes Firefox the safest browser around. This optional extension, which takes a minute to install, prevents websites from running Javascript (see below) on your computer. You can temporarily or permanently allow trusted websites to run Javascript so you can have the functionality the designers intend and the protection that gives you peace of mind your computer will always be working. Until the hard drive dies..
This will allow you to selectively allow Javascript (code you automatically download from a website that runs on your computer and is, 99% of the time, a good thing; however, it can be used to automatically download Spyware, Adware, Viruses, Trojans, Keyloggers, and other bad things you don’t want) on a site-by-site basis and also to tame Microsoft’s ActiveX controls (an application programming interface that allows web browsers to download and execute Windows programs similar in nature to Javascript). Oh, and it’s also years ahead of Internet Explorer 7 in add-on functionality and you can even customize its looks.
This brings us to…
Javascript | TopReturn to the top of this page.
Javascript is a “client side script” or software program downloaded automatically from a website that operate on a user’s computer and allow additional website functionality. It is very common and many excellent websites simply can’t be used without it.
Unfortunately, unscrupulous people can write client side script in such a way that it will automatically install unwanted software onto a user’s computer.
Users may safely allow Javascript on ChristophDollis.com.
I use it to bring enhanced functionality.

Google provides ChristophDollis.com with a customized search engine to search this website and any other websites I decide to include in the results.

After making an initial search, the user is also given the option to use this service to search the entire internet.

Blog* Opinions (and Trackbacks) | TopReturn to the top of this page.
Regarding blog* opinions (often frequently referred to as blog* comments), users are requested to enter their email address in the required field of the, “Opinions? What do you think !” form. This is to help protect my blog* against spam blog* opinions and so I can contact the user.
Only I can see it. I hide it from spammers. It is not shared with other users or published on the blog*.
With the exception of entering an email address in this field, I urge users not to put their email address anywhere else into the, “Opinions? What do you think !” form; in other words, don’t put it in the big box above the, “I’m done. Publish it!” button. This will protect users’ email addresses from the general public — and nasty spam email harvesters.
A spam email harvester is an automated software program that scours hundreds of millions of webpages on the Internet collecting all the email addresses it can find so the owner of the program can spam the owners of those email addresses or sell their email addresses to someone else so they can spam them.
For information on several strategies users can use to protect themselves from spam email harvesters, please visit these outside links: hereIf a user or other person is a webmaster or has any type of online presence such as MySpace, Facebook, YouTube, or whatever else is popular these days, they should NOT post their email address in plain form on the web. Instead, protect it using an image or a web contact form. and hereIf a user has a website one option to protect their email address is to use encrypted Javascript..

I reserve the right to send out a final email within that 15-business day period acknowledging that the user’s request will be honoured and offering them the opportunity to contact Christoph Dollis Enterprises in the future.

If at any point I decide to use personally identifiable information in a manner materially different from that stated at the time it was collected, I would notify users by way of an email, telephone call, or postal letter (at my option) to the last point of contact I have on file.
